George
V, the first monarch of the House of Windsor, was born at Marlborough
House in 1865. In 1893 he married Mary of
Teck at St
James's Palace,
acceded to the throne in 1910 and ruled until his death in 1936.
In 1926 the present Queen Elizabeth
II was born at 17 Bruton Street, the home of her maternal grandparents.
She became Queen on her father's death in 1952.
